Homemade Body Scrub

My mom used to make a simple sea salt scrub for me when I was younger, and it became one of those self-care rituals that stuck. Now I make it for myself
As I got older and more interested in wellness, I started paying attention to the labels on store-bought scrubs. Many of them are packed with fillers, synthetic fragrances, and preservatives, and the price tags can be surprisingly high for something so simple. Making it at home lets me keep the ingredient list short, clean, and skin-friendly.

One of the reasons this scrub works so well in an everyday routine is that it’s incredibly forgiving. There’s no need to measure perfectly.

Here’s the recipe at a glance, with measurements for those who want them, but this scrub truly does not need to be precise. You can absolutely eyeball it and adjust as you go.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup sea salt
  • 1/2 cup fractionated coconut oil (add more if needed)
  • 10–20 drops essential oils (lavender, citrus, peppermint, etc.)

Instructions
  • Add 1 cup of sea salt to a mixing bowl.
  • Pour in 1/2 cup fractionated coconut oil and stir.
  • If it looks too dry, add a bit more oil until it becomes a thick, scoopable paste. Aim for about a 2:1 ratio of salt to oil.
  • Add 10–20 drops of your favorite essential oil, stir again, and adjust the scent to your liking.
  • Spoon the scrub into a clean, airtight jar and store in your shower.
